The purpose of the symposium is to explore new insights into the composition of solar-system and galactic matter, and fractionation processes affecting samples of this matter, that have been brought about by recent space missions, ground-based studies, and theoretical advances. The estimated number of attendees is about 80.

Topics

The symposium will have five sessions, encompassing a broad range of composition studies.

  1. Linking primordial to solar composition
overview speakers: Johannes Geiss and Nikos Prantzos
  2. Planetary samples
        overview speaker: Toby Owen
  3. Solar sources and fractionation processes
overview speakers: Nicolas Grevesse and Ed Stone
  4. Interstellar gas
        overview speaker: Rosine Lallement
  5. Cosmic rays
        overview speaker: Mark Wiedenbeck
A special session on Wednesday afternoon will highlight Johannes Geiss' lifetime contributions to studies of the composition of matter, with speakers Hubert Reeves, Friedrich Begemann, and George Gloeckler. The session will be followed by an excursion and dinner, also to the honor of Johannes Geiss, with speeches by several surprise guests.
