FORMATION OF SECONDARY EJECTA CRATERS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON PLANETARY CHRONOLOGY

Purpose:  Our team, expert on issues of impact  cratering and Mars chronology, is completing data collection and numerical simulation  on the spatial and size distribution of secondary impact craters around Martian crater named ‘’Gratteri’’ in order to constrain (a) crater counting techniques used to measure Martian chronology, and (b) launch conditions of Martian meteorites.

Agenda of the first meeting :

6-10 May

View of Gratteri crater, surrounded by secondaries:

A)    THEMIS IR mosaic showing the rays of Gratteri Crater

B)     MOC image of the secondary craters inside the rays at 150 km from the primary impact

The background image of the web-page is an HIRISE image of the floor of Gratteri crater. The spatial resolution is 25 cm.
