The International Space Science Institute (ISSI) is organizing a workshop on
“Matter in the Universe” which will take place in Bern (Switzerland) from 19 to
23 March 2001. The aim of the workshop is to gather active researchers from
various fields (cosmology, astrophysics, nuclear and particle physics as well
as space science) to assess the exciting new developments in the search for
abundant and yet unknown forms of matter in the Universe.
The subjects include: Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB), large
scale structures, clusters, intergalactic absorption, dark matter components of
galaxies, globular clusters, supernovae of type Ia (SNe Ia) distance measurements,
gravitational lensing, X-ray observations, Lyman-a observations, detection
of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), detection of neutrino
oscillations, particle candidates for dark matter, and baryonic matter
(nucleosynthesis).
The workshop will be organized to have only plenary sessions with 20- to
30-min presentations and ample time for discussions. Great importance will be
attached to the discussions which should help to illuminate the subjects in
greater depth through lively participation of many experts in various fields.
The last day of the workshop will be devoted to conclusions and future
objectives. Proceedings will be published in the Space Science Series of ISSI
(Kluwer Academic Publishers).
