Objectives: The International Space Science Institute will arrange a workshop entitled "Observing and modeling Earth's energy flows" on 10-14 January 2011, at ISSI, Bern. Significant uncertainties in a number of key energy exchange and feedback processes in the climate system limit the accuracy in the orijections of climate change. The meeting will seek to identify the most critical of these processes, those that cause the largest uncertainties, and will attempt to identify the experimental and theoritical studies that are needed to reduce these uncertainties. A printed volume will be published after the workshop in the Space Science Series of ISSI by Springer Verlag. This volume intends to be a collection of in-depth papers (all peer reviewed) inspired by the contributions and discussions at the workshop.
