Agenda for meeting on 28-31 August, 2018

ISSI Team at August 2018 meeting

Meeting presentations (restricted)

ISSI-2 Team meeting (Aug 28th – 31th) agenda (updated on 26 Aug. 2018):

Tuesday (starting 9 am at ISSI) – Overall theme –  Creation of uniform plage dataset

  • Welcome, administration, meeting goals & ground rules (Alexei)
  • Current work and issues related to merging Kodaikanal and MWO datasets of CaK spectroheliograms into a single series:
    • Luca Bertello “Towards a unified Ca II K database”
    • Dipankar and Subhamoy – an update on the Ca data from KSO
    • Andrey Tlatov “Latest reduction of Ca K line data from KSO, MWO and Meudon
    • Discussion: how to deal with plage non-uniformities between KSO and MWO data

Wednesday (starting 9 am at ISSI) Overall theme – Converting plage images into pseudo magnetograms

10:00 AM  Skype presentation by Yong-Jae Moon on application of artificial Intelligence to derive magnetograms from imaging data.

  • Ilpo Virtanen, “Sixty years of magnetogram data: current status of intercalibration and re-analysis efforts”
  • Serena Criscuoli, Can we use the results of 3D MHD simulations for establishing connection between CaK and magnetic flux (for scaling CaK plage intensities to magnetic flux) instead of empirical scaling?
  • Iiro Virtanen, “”The polarity of active regions and the location of neutral lines in SFT simulations”
  • Anthony Yeates “The importance of polarity information”
  • Planning a practical test of how we would best incorporate the Ca-K maps into models, in order that we have some concrete results by the time of the final meeting.

Thursday AM (starting 9 am at ISSI) Overall theme – Constraining SFT

  • using H-alpha (and CaK?) filament data to constrain the flux transport model (what data are available/best to use and how do we best use them)
  • Subhamoy – H-alpha and prominence data from KSO.
  • Ksenia Tlatova “Identification of chromospheric (H-alpha) filaments”
  • Sudip (through Skype) will present some preliminary results from our active region tilt work (schedule before 1:30PM)
  • Sudip/Subhamoy/Bibhuti might present some preliminary results on rotation (schedule before 1:30PM)
  • Bibhuti (through Skype) will present some work on umbra/penumbra ratio work (schedule before 1:30PM)
  • Discussion: Spatial properties (clumped vs. diffuse) of polar field: how important this is and what are the implications for SFT models? – maybe Lisa can contribute to this discussion via Skype?
  • Discussion: how latitudinal behavior of tilt angles derived from MWO data could affect the surface flux transport modeling
  • Discussion: How about meridional flow?

Friday AM (starting 9 am at ISSI)

Final discussions of all issues, what needs to be done next, planning for next ISSI meeting in Winter 2019.

Meeting summary.

Friday PM travel back home and any additional discussions by the members of team staying in Bern that day.
