Monday a.m. (starting 9 am at ISSI)

  • Welcome, administration, meeting goals & ground rules (Alexei)
  • 1. Project overview – Alexei (lead)
  • 2. Plage – magnetic flux relation (based on recent work by Ismo) – Alexei (lead), Ilpo
  • 3. Various tests using surface flux transport models – Iiro (lead), Anthony

Monday PM

  • Discussion of issues related to flux transport models, plage identification etc
  • 4. MWO sunspot observations (update on digitization of MWO sunspot field measurements, comparison with modern observations) – work by several team members and students – Alexei (lead), Alexander (via Skype at about 4PM)

Tuesday AM

  • 5. CaK spectroheliograms (Kodaikanal and MWO data, merging two datasets to fill the gaps in data) – Dipankar (lead), Luca
  • 6. Differential rotation (determination of differential rotation from historical data, any changes from cycle to cycle) – Sudip (lead)
  • 7. Meridional flows (determination of meridional flows from historical data, any changes from cycle to cycle) – Anthony (lead)

Tuesday PM

  • Discussion of issues related to the effects of large-scale flows (differential rotation and meridional circulation).
  • Discussion of issues related to merging MWO and Kodaikanal data to create uniform dataset of plages (bring each dataset for tests).

Wednesday AM

  • 8. Heliosphere and coronal field representation based on historical data – Ilpo (lead for historical magnetogram data, coronal modelling, coronal hole modelling and heliospheric perspectives), Kalevi (lead for connection to geomagnetism and long-term reconstruction)
  • 9. TSI modeling based on historical pseudo-magnetograms – Ilaria (lead)

Wednesday, PM

Discussion of issues related to application of pseudo-magnetograms for Heliospheric and TSI modeling: what are shortcomings, what is needed etc.

Thursday AM

  • 10. Active region tilt and its change from cycle to cycle – Ksenia (lead via Skype), Anthony
  • 11. H-alpha filaments/prominences and large-scale flux systems – Andrey (lead via Skype).

Thursday PM

  • Discussion of issues related to determination of tilts and their effects on surface flux transport modeling, potential use of H-alpha data in identification of large-scale flux systems etc.

Friday AM

  • Final discussions of all issues, what needs to be done next, planning for next ISSI meeting in Summer.
  • Meeting summary.

Friday PM

  • travel back home and any additional discussions by the members of team staying in Bern that day.
