Recent results and analysis of theoretical possibilities
Related mainly to Frontier-RIKEN and Frontier-NASDA
projects in Japan (1996-2001). Some results were published in
Atmospheric and Ionospheric Phenomena Associated
with Earthquakes, edit. by M. Hayakawa, 1999;
Seismo-Electromagnetics (Lithosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere
Coupling), M. Hayakawa and O. Molchanov,edits. 2002
-ULF and AE emissions appears several hours around date of
large EQs, probable due to water motion near the ground surface
- Precursory changes in ULF impedance ratio appears several
days before large EQs, but their origin unclear
- There are reliable precursory changes in VLF sounding data related to
perturbations near atmosphere-ionosphere boundary several days around
- LIACS was found from reliable statistics of the satellite data, but the coupling
is weak and its mechanisms not well-understood
