There are several scientific goals, the main one being to detect those famous g modes. In the process we will also learn about detecting low frequency p modes that are known to have very long lifetimes thereby behaving more or less like g modes. There are also more pragmatic goals to be achieved such as pushing our detection limit using novel, innovative, unconventional detection techniques. The sum of all us being more than the sum of each, we will far more creativity by being together. OUTPUT It is also the intention of the group to write a major review paper that will summarize all the detection techniques that the group explored during their search for g modes, in addition to a shorter paper summarizing the most recent results arising from the activity of the group. The review paper would also explore other seismic or non-seismic techniques for detecting, hopefully additional, g modes. Recent advances in theoretical modeling of the internal structure of the Sun will be used to refine the number of g modes to be detected with these new techniques. For such an ambitious review paper, we foresee that the paper be ready about 2 years after the end of the ISSI activities. This time scale is based on our previous experience. |
