Born in Bern but with a childhood spent navigating the bustling constellations of Hong Kong, Raphael brings an international trajectory worthy of a seasoned space probe. Over the years, his course has passed through Switzerland, the US, France, and Hong Kong—collecting languages like planetary flybys: German, Swiss German, English, and French.
With a scientific gaze fixed on small solar system bodies—asteroids, comets, and other cosmic crumbs—Raphael explores how these relics of the early Solar System can help us understand the origin story of our planetary neighbourhood. His work might be grounded in celestial dust, but his favourite feature of space? Possibly, the majestic rings of Saturn, spinning with elegance in the vacuum.
Back on Earth (and particularly in Bern), you might catch him admiring the view from the Rosengarten, hiking in the Alps, or tinkering with his 3D printer—where imagination becomes reality, one layer at a time, as he says.
As a kid, he dreamed of exploring the ocean depths as a marine biologist. These days, he’s still diving into the unknown—just at a slightly more cosmic scale.
Welcome aboard, Raphael! May your journey with ISSI be filled with discovery, curiosity, and just the right amount of ringed planets. 🌠
